Okanagan Thunderchair Team
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ian Wright. On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Ian Wright, son and brother of Johanna, Mel, and Brendan Wright, passed away suddenly to Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of 28.
Ian was a long time and founding member of the Okanagan Thunderchairs in Kelowna, BC. He was a member of Team BC numerously, and Team Canada 2017, which competed at the 2017 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup in Kissimmee Florida, USA. He played skillfully at a Provincial, National, and International level. He was a quiet and soft spoken young man with a charming giggle and a big smile that reached both side of his face. You could always tell when he was ecstatic or determined or frustrated on the court– it was always written on face. He was a strong competitive player that was always determined to win.
Here are some beautiful quotes from family and friends that described him:
Gregg Wright, quote, “His positive attitude, infectious smile and kind soul will live forever in our hearts and minds. Ian was a shining example of the human spirit, he never took anything for granted and was grateful for everyday on this earth, and so should we all be.”
Chelsea Jade McEvoy, quote, “I’ll miss his giggle, sipping a drink with a straw and his quiet spirit, soaking up our madness and laughing with us all the way. Ian lived life to the fullest with a kind and gentle heart, I’ll sip something fruity for you today my friend.”
Our condolences to the Wright Family. Ian was a great friend, a fierce powerchair football player, and a joy to be around every time. He will be missed dearly. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Wright Family.
